Have you ever heard that old adage, “write what you know?” I guess in this case, it’s true. I know the dual protagonists of the Wicked Wick Mystery series, Paloma and Leigh. Not literally — they’re not based directly on real people. But what I do know is their motivation. To leave that rat race of corporate life and cubicles and endless emails from the company volunteer party planners asking if you’re signed up to bring a vegetable dish yet for the next potluck.
I wish I had their courage.
They leave those old lives behind to start over. They jump into their new business, running the Wicked Wick candle shop, with confidence, joy, and enthusiasm.
I love Leigh’s sense of humor, enjoyment of every moment, and “I’m living life my way” attitude. She says whatever comes into her head but always leads with her heart. From her love of all baked goods to her terrible taste in men, she is the perfect foil for Paloma. And I love Paloma’s sweet introspection and artistic expression. She’s contemplative and thoughtful and sees patterns in the world that everyone else usually misses, because they’re too busy racing through life. That perspective gives her the ability to be in tune with the universe and put creativity into her candles and scents at the Wicked Wick store.
Paloma pulls things from the air and earth and creates something deep and magical. Leigh contributes whimsy and spontaneity and brings light into their world.
Leigh and Paloma balance each other and encourage each other. Together they make the perfect team, both to run a successful business and solve some mysteries in Fall Haven. And I honestly can’t wait to see what adventure they get themselves into next!
